The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby requires volunteers with all kinds of skills, interests and talents to help on an ongoing or one-off basis. By filling out our online form you will be added to our database of volunteers and receive updates on upcoming volunteering opportunities.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping out at our Mardi Gras season events, including marching in the parade with us or helping out at Fair Day
  • Getting involved in campaigns – writing letters, submissions and emails to politicians
  • Helping staff our fundraising cloakrooms at gay and lesbian parties
  • Being involved in ongoing working groups
  • Being a member of the committee of management (members only).

What does it take to be a volunteer?

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit all skills, interests and abilities. Mardi Gras (February to March) is a particularly busy time for us, but opportunities come up throughout the year.

Volunteers can help at one-off events for a couple of hours or be involved in ongoing campaigns and working groups.

One-off events are great fun and require no long term commitment; just an hour or two at special events. No experience is required.

Being involved in working groups requires more time and ongoing dedication to specific projects and campaigns. Initiative and the ability to work cooperatively in a diverse team are particularly good assets to have. Whilst no specific skills are compulsory, we are particularly interested in volunteers with policy, legal, IT, finance, event management, media or political experience or skills.

Once you register your interest in volunteering, your email address will be added to our volunteers contact list and you will be sent email updates about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. You simply pick the opportunities that suit your time and interests. You can unsubscribe at any time.

To register you interest, please fill in our online volunteer form.
